About

okay, i never, ever thought i would become a photographer. ever! my background is graphic design and english, and i had these grand visions out of college to design my own line of stationery and books and magazines. well, the reality was that i needed to work…i needed a steady paycheck, so i was thrown into the real world of graphic design, and it wasn’t for me, SO i decided i would teach high school english…i was going to inspire a generation of 17 year olds to LOVE reading and analyzing The Scarlet Letter. And i think i did inspire many to see literature in a new way, but then motherhood beckoned me….i stopped teaching after 4 years to be a full time mom. i LOVED (and will always love) every minute of this.

my graphic design work slowly picked up and i was asked repeatedly about incorporating photography into the designs. i was forced (thank goodness) into photography. i had to learn and understand it so that it became second nature to me. for this i am so, so grateful. my graphic design jobs depended on it, and a new passion was born for me. AND, i had a super cute kid to practice on! this passion has boomed in so many wonderful ways. i have been able to combine my love for children and people, graphic design, architecture/interiors and photography all in one. my photography style is heavily rooted in my interest in design/architecture and composition. AND in my intense desire to capture children for who they really are.

some women enjoy nice handbags, shoes, and expensive jewelry… i love photographic equipment (and christmas decorations). seriously!!! my passion and drive force me to constantly strive for my personal best, thus, my photography will always be an ever-evolving part of my life (and my family’s life).

i am a life-long Norfolk native (except my college years at William and Mary)…i guess you could say that i’ve never really strayed too far from the 23507 zip code! I was third generation at Maury High School, and i have hopes that Max will be the fourth generation from our family to attend Maury. i was featured in Inside Business in 2008 as both a StartUp Business Success story and as a Top 40 Under 40 for Hampton Roads, and our studio received the Nickelodeon’s Parent’s Choice Award for Best Family Photographer in Norfolk in 2009.
