session swap….

oct162010 001

kinda like “wife swap,” but way less drama and way more fun!  i met up with beth wood at our alma mater (the alma mater of a Nation) yesterday….to swap photos of our kids (and i totally got the sweeter end of the deal…her kids were cooperative, older, and super fun to work with…beth got a squirmy, tired 10 month old with a scratched face and bruised leg, and my son who claimed he had his “quiet” face with him while in the ‘Burg….what in the world does that mean???).

Here is what i captured in the few, chaotic moments we were together.  i was multi-tasking like a champ…snagging shots of these adorable, easy to photograph children, while holding a baby, giving a baby a bottle with one arm, “encouraging” max to give a real smile :) , asking my husband to not be handling business matters on his blackberry while helping with the kids, and making sure my baby wasn’t eating any ants or leaves, and visiting with my sorority sister!

we palled around the Wren yard and building, then hit Merchant’s Square for the children’s “bribe” gifts and some lunch.

felt GREAT to be back in williamsburg.  i LOVE it there.  Hoping to get another trip in VERY soon!

thank you so very much, beth!

these were shot with either my 50mm 1.4 lens or my 85mm 1.4.  i rarely use the 85mm lens, so it was fun to use my “big girl lens!”

hello random tuesday….

college papers

totally random day here in the willette gong show.  i happened upon these OLD english papers this morning while cleaning out some file folders.  A little known fact about me is that i was an English major at William and Mary for my undergraduate degree (and i LOVED it!!!).  I also started a masters degree in English Literature, but i wimped out and dropped out of graduate school (with 6 credits left to go).  THAT is a really sore subject around here.  Let me just state for the record right now that i will NOT be finishing that degree.  i have no interest in taking any more courses.  There….i said it.

SO, i found these papers.  These GENIUS papers, i might add.  I am still amazed at my knack for finding the sexual imagery in just about any american or british novel.  If you are reading this and you happened to be one of my English students when i was a teacher (another little known fact about me, i used to teach 11th grade english until i had my son….NOT that you can tell now with my horrid spelling and grammar) then you know full well my skill at finding the dirty in literature.

fast forward about an hour after i found these papers….i was in the shower listening to my iPod mix, which has Delta Dawn by Bette Midler on it (the song immediately following this one is “Ghetto Bastard” by Naugty by Nature…nice).  Here is a video of Tanya Tucker singing it in the 1980s….not as good as bette’s version, but still pretty damn good.  I couldn’t help but see the similarities between the protagonist in the Delta Dawn song and the character in Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily.”   Does anyone else notice the similarities?

SO SO random, i know, but i just had to share. And did i seriously just write the word “protagonist” on a blog post???  i seriously have GOT to get out of this house….i’m a bit housebound these days.  Baby girl cannot stand her carseat, and i cannot stand to hear her express how she cannot stand her carseat.  So here we are.  In the house.

i also wanted to play with my new 50mm macro lens. and share a photo.

my alpha chi nephew

flipbl1

here is that super chunky 5 month old i had the pleasure of photographing last week.  i guess you could say that he is my nephew (in an alpha chi omega kinda way…).  His momma is my little sister from our sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, at William and Mary.  It is always fun to see her when she is back in the States for visits.  As many of you know, my photographic focus and preference is children dressed in classic and traditional attire.  Master T was ALL about his beautiful linens.  He even wore the family baptism gown, which was monogrammed with each child who has worn its intials and the date of their baptism.  GREAT seeing you again, Marg (and i LOVED photographing you little Master T).  Wish you all lived closer… xxoo to all of you.
